old kitchen sign

I've been wanting an old sign for my kitchen for a long time.  Old signs are almost impossible to find, at least for me.  So I guess I'll have to make my own.  I went out back and looked around and found a weathered piece of wood.  I sanded it down smooth and used some of my leftover laundry room paint.  I brushed it on lightly making sure not to cover the whole piece.

I printed out some letters on the computer and traced them onto parchment paper.   Then I cut them out using little nail scissors.  Kind of tedious, but oh well.

Then I placed them where I wanted them on the board and with my finger rubbed some gel stain very lightly over the stencils.  Looking good.

Then I sanded some places lightly back off for a worn look.

And here is the finished sign.

 

Not too bad.  And it was Free!
