Painting the shutters white

If you sing it to the tune of  "painting the roses red", you could almost be fooled into thinking it's not that big of a job.  Almost.  It's a big ol' bear of a job!!  But, one that has to be done.  Here is my living room with the oak shutters.

I taped around the moldings and removed the shutters from the frame.  Zero wants to know why I moved the couch so far away from his favorite view.  Then I wiped them all down with a deglosser a couple of times so the paint will stick better.

After painting my office shutters with a brush and Hating. Every. Minute.  I decided there has to be a better way.  That better way is a spray gun.  I watched some videos online of how professionals paint shutters and learned a few tips.  One of them is to nail some long nails at each end to rest the shutters on while you paint. Genius.  This was the first time using a paint gun for me.  It took a little getting used to.  It goes through paint pretty fast, but I really only had to do one coat because it goes on pretty thick. And it's paint and primer in one.  I use Behr from Home Depot.

I also learned to use a ladder to put the shutters on to dry.  One of the videos was a company that makes plantation shutters.  They said the most popular shutter color is Swiss Coffee.  That's the white I use on all of my doors and trim in my house!  And that's what these shutters are painted in!

It's been a few days of work, but I'm excited to see them up and see the transformation.
